Hilltop is where Denver keeps some of its most gracious homes, and this one arrived with a passport. Designed and built by Chalet, the studio of John and Regan Mattingly, the home its family named Thea was drawn from the villages on the outskirts of London, all red brick, white windows, and tile roof, with interiors that marry classical English and early American colonial style to easy, contemporary living. Yet for all its old-world charm, this is a home built for a modern family to truly live in, and QAV was the technology partner who made that possible. It remains one of our favorite projects of all time.
Coverage, Inside and Out
The home was designed to breathe, with a gentle indoor-outdoor flow that invites the western breeze through open doors on nearly every room of the main floor. Technology had to follow the family out into that fresh air, so QAV engineered Wi-Fi that blankets the entire property, inside and out, from the farthest bedroom to the far corner of the garden. Wander wherever the day leads, and the connection simply comes along.
Watched Over, Always
Peace of mind is its own luxury. QAV secured the entire premises with integrated security and surveillance, so the family can come and go, travel, and sleep easy knowing the whole property is watched over, discreetly and around the clock.
Music in Nearly Every Room
Then came the sound. QAV placed audio in nearly every room of the home, so music moves with the family from the kitchen to the study to the primary suite, each space with its own mood and all of it a touch away. Even the fireplaces join the choreography, set to come to life at that same touch, so a room can turn warm, glowing, and full of music in a single effortless moment.
A Theater in the Heart of the Home
For movie nights, QAV built a living-space theater, with cinema-grade picture and immersive sound woven into the living areas rather than tucked away in a basement, so the whole family can gather for a film without ever leaving the center of the home.
A Surf Shack, of All Things
And then the home reveals its sense of humor. QAV outfitted a surf shack, a pure and joyful escape complete with its own audio and video, the kind of unexpected room that makes a house unforgettable. It is where a Colorado family gets to keep a little piece of the coast, sound and screen included.
Where the Kids Can Be Kids
Best of all is the training room. QAV finished an indoor athletic training space to the standard of a college training facility, wired for audio and video, a place where the kids can push themselves, burn off energy, and simply be kids no matter the weather outside. It is the room that quietly turns a beautiful house into their house.
This is why Thea is one of QAV's favorite projects. It is proof that a home can be impeccably designed and genuinely fun, refined and full of life, all at once. We wove the technology through every inch of it and then got out of the way, so the family could get on with the best part, which is living there.
You will never see the work. You will only feel the home.
